Germany: Clearance of Hambach forest 'imminent'

Police vans began to encircle a section of Hambach forest occupied by environmental activists on Thursday morning. The regional government sent notice to local building authorities outlining the camp's breaches in health and safety regulations. The clearing of the forest and a forced evacuation could begin immediately. The occupation started around six years ago, when a small group of... Еще activists decided to give up electricity and running water and dwell in the forest to fight against the expansion of a nearby coal mine. Hambach is currently home to some 150 people who live in tree houses. They oppose the plan of the energy company RWE to extend the biggest open pit coal mine in Europe.
