Germany: Clashes as police clear activists from forest

Clashes erupted in North Rhine-Westphalia as police cleared environmental activists from Hambach Forest on Monday. On November24, the Court of Cologne ruled that RWE Energy Company plans for a coal mine in the forest do not breach environmental legislation. Several activists who have been occupying the forest to prevent the installation of a lignite mine clashed with police and RWE energy... Еще company employees as they started clearing the area. The police used a water hose and pepper spray to keep activists away and allow RWE employees to go on with deforestation procedures. An emergency vehicle was damaged during the clashes, according to the police.
