German Chancellor Angela Merkel and leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU) Horst Seehofer announced that they had come to an agreement regarding a cap on asylum seekers entering Germany, which will be a maximum of 200,000 annually, during a press conference at Konrad-Adenauer-Haus in Berlin on Monday.
The announcement came after 10 hours of talks between CDU and CSU politicians to resolve a... Еще dispute whereby Seehofer had reportedly threatened to pull out of any coalition unless Merkel agreed to an upper limit on the number of new arrivials in Germany.
The chancellor also said that the CDU/CSU alliance would put measures in place to ensure that a situation similar to the influx of asylum seekers into Germany amidst 2015's refugee crisis «will not and cannot» be repeated.
In light of the compromise reached, the CDU will reportedly hold talks with members of the the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and the Greens with whom she may attempt to form a 'Jamaica coalition,' on October 18 and 20.
