Footage filmed in Bremerhaven on Thursday shows the cargo ship MSC Zoe which lost around 270 containers in stormy seas off the Dutch coast. According to officials, the incident occurred on Tuesday night as the storm Zeetje hit northern Germany. The containers fell off the Panamanian-flagged ship near the German island of Borkum and floated southwest toward Dutch waters. Head of Cuxhaven's... Еще Central Command for Maritime Emergencies Hans-Werner Monsees explained what is believed to have happened while speaking in Cuxhaven. «We had a storm situation out there. And the ship was running parallel to the storm. That means it took the full force of the storm. And because of material fatigue or because it had been fixed in a false way — the investigation that is going on now in the port will show that — a chain reaction occurred — the whole system started to move. And these are such forces that especially while the ship is moving can tear the containers out of their anchorage,» Monsees said. Three of the missing containers reportedly carried hazardous materials. Dutch and German Coastguards are now searching the North Sea for the missing cargo.
