German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer attended a special meeting of the Bundestag internal affairs committee to discuss the ongoing scandal at the Bremen BAMF (Federal Office for Migration and Refugees), in Berlin on Tuesday. The meeting was also attended by several members of the Bundestag, and the current BAMF president, Jutta Cordt. Christian Social Union (CSU) Bundestag member from Bavaria... Еще, Andrea Lindholz, explained the reason for the meeting prior to it taking place. «Both [German Minister of Interior] Mr Seehofer and [President of BAMF] Ms. Cordt will inform us about the particular things which have been going on in the BAMF branch office in Bremen in the last few years. And also which possible quality defects, systematic defects, questions of internal controls in BAMF as a whole can be resolved in the future,» Lindholz said. Another Member of the Bundestag, Burkhard Lischka of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), lampooned the branch office for the handling of the scandal. «It is a mixture of sloppiness and indifference which lead to this, insofar as these processes were not uncovered earlier and thus closed off, we are now currently dealing with a real scandal, which has, naturally, shaken the trust of the citizens not only in the BAMF (Federal Office for Migration and Refugees), but also in our asylum procedures and the rule of law.» The Bremen branch of BAMF was the centre of a major scandal, in which officials allegedly took bribes in return for offering asylum requests.
