Germany: Berliners hold motorcade-protest demanding release of journalists detained in Turkey

Hundreds of people gathered in central Berlin, Sunday, to protest against the imprisonment in Turkey of German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yucel and of other journalists. At around 12:30 local time (10:30 GMT), bikes and cars gathered at Karl-Marx-Allee, by the Kino International, and started a motorcade towards the Chancellery, where several speeches were held. Among those who spoke to the crowd... Еще were Yucel's sister and a spokesperson for Mesale Tolu. Steffen Kussner, a friend of Deniz Yucel, stated that the reporter was arrested because he had written critically about events in Turkey, and that «he is there [in prison] for no reason and we are demanding his freedom.» Yucel worked for the German newspaper Die Welt, and has been held since February 14, 2017, on accusations of spreading terrorist propaganda. Mesale Tolu was arrested earlier this year under similar accusations.
