Germany: Berliners cast their votes as 2017 federal election kicks off

Residents headed to Hermann-Hesse-School polling station in Berlin’s Kreuzberg, Sunday, to cast their ballots in the 2017 Federal Election which will select new members of the German federal parliament, the Bundestag. Around 88,000 polling stations across the country will be open from 08:00 local time (06:00 GMT) until 18:00. More than 61.5 million people are eligible to vote in the federal... Еще elections. Opinion polls are led by Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Her strongest contender for the Chancellorship is former President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, whose Social Democrats Party (SPD) is the minority party in the current government.
