Germany: Berlin Zoo's twin panda cubs get ready for public debut

Meng Xiang and Meng Yuan, the panda twins born in the Berlin zoo last August, were presented to the press on Wednesday ahead of their official appearance in front of the public at Berlin Zoo. The funny young pandas could be seen playing with each other as well as with tree branches left for them inside the glass enclosure by zoo staff, under close supervision of their mother Meng Meng. Ahead of... Еще their debut, the five-month-old male twins, nicknamed Pit and Paule among the zoo workers, got microchips for electronic identification as well as anti-worm medication. «What was important for us and what we have been waiting for, was for the little ones (panda bears) to finally be able to walk. Secondly, both of them should have a contact with the mother. I just would like to show that she really accepts them both,» said Zoo director Andreas Knieriem. Knieriem advised «everyone, who comes to us, to look through the Internet, as they can purchase digital tickets. You can also make payment transactions and bring your ticket with you on your own smartphone or on paper; as a result the queues will be shortened significantly.» The twin panda cubs were born in Berlin Zoo on August 31 to their mother Meng Meng and became the first pandas ever born in Germany. The public will be able to visit Panda Garden to see the cute couple starting from Thursday, January 30.
