Germany: Berlin ready to provide Eastern Ghouta with humanitarian aid — FM spokesperson

Spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry Maria Adebahr said that Germany is standing ready with humanitarian aid for when the recently agreed-upon UN ceasefire comes into effect in the besieged Syrian enclave of Eastern Ghouta, during a routine press conference in Berlin on Monday. Adebahr highlighted that Germany had «immediately» organised humanitarian aid for the region, which it will... Еще provide to the civilians trapped inside Eastern Ghouta as soon as the ceasefire is observed. «That’s the issue at the moment, that we establish access, that we stand ready to try to work with other organistions to provide aid supplies in the region when the ceasefire comes into effect,» she said. The spokesperson went on to say that this was not an «easy task» and Syria had seen a total of 22 ceasefires in recent years. Adebahr emphasised the urgency of the situation; «the suffering and desperation of the people has reached an extent which is hard to endure.» On Saturday, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) voted unanimously in favour of a 30-day ceasefire in Syria, as part of a resolution to allow humanitarian aid to reach the most afflicted areas in Syria and proceed with medical evacuations. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres recently described the conditions for civilians in Eastern Ghouta as «hell on earth.»
