A police investigation is underway, Tuesday, after 12 memorial stones dedicated to victims of Nazi persecution between 1933 and 1945 went missing from the streets of Berlin. Residents informed police of the missing 'Stolpersteine' (stumbling stones) after noticing their absence in multiple streets of the city's Neukolln district. Police spokesperson Heidi Vogt stated that all lines of inquiry... Еще are being followed, adding that they «cannot rule out possible political motives behind this act.» Stolpersteine memorial stones were first placed on the streets of the German capital in 1996. The stones measure 10x10cm (3.93 inches) and are placed into the pavement in front of the last voluntarily chosen places of residence of the Nazi victims. A brass plate atop the stones is inscribed with the names and fate of each victim.
