Germany: Berlin opens its first COVID-19 quarantine station for the homeless

The city of Berlin opened a coronavirus quarantine station built especially for the homeless as the country has begun to slowly reopen following weeks of lockdown, footage from Thursday shows. Immediately upon entering there is a disinfection station, where workers must follow strict guidelines to disinfect themselves before entering and exiting. The facility itself features several bedrooms... Еще, bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a room where smoking is allowed. «Nobody wants to be somewhere on the road when he is ill. So we thought the homeless people if they have got corona, if they have got a high temperature, they can't just walk along the streets and live and lie under the bridge,» said Press spokesperson of Berliner Stadtmission — where the shelter is located — Barbara Breuer. The station was organised by the evangelical association Berliner Stadtmission, with funds from the Berlin Senate, and has a capacity for 16 people. Homeless people who test positive for the virus can be sent to station, where they can stay safe and off the streets as they recuperate and prevent infecting others. A local doctor also works at station, Breuer confirmed.
