German government spokesperson Steffen Seibert and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Adebahr explained the German position on the JCPOA Treaty with Iran, at a federal press conference in Berlin on Friday.
Seibert reported a recent statement by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in which she said that it is not only in the German interest to maintain the JCPOA treaty, but in the interests of Iran... Еще itself, despite Tehran having announced a partial withdrawal from the treaty.
“We want to fulfill our part without deductions as long and as far as Iran fulfills its commitment,» Maria Adebahr added, remarking that intense contact was being maintained between Russia and China who are also partners of the treaty.
Regarding the issue of the right to use certain parts of an exclusive economic zone in the northern part of Cyprus, Seibert stated that Cyprian President Nicos Anastasiades has appealed to other EU members to represent the Cypriot interests in discussions with Turkey, and that Germany will do so. The matter relates to reported drilling for gas by Turkey in the waters off Cyprus.
