Germany has condemned the attack on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, said deputy government spokesperson Ulrike Demmer during the German Federal Government press conference in Berlin on Friday.
«These are very concerning news. Any development which could escalate the current situation should be avoided. We must not get into an escalation spiral. Acts of sabotage against or attacks... Еще on commercial vessels are threatening the international shipping as well as for the regional safety in general,» said Demmer.
Commenting on Turkey purchasing S-400 missile defence systems from Russia, Demmer stated that Germany would welcome it if Turkey reviewed the move, warning that it was «neither in NATO nor in Turkey's interest.»
Two ships owned by companies in Norway and Singapore were reportedly attacked south of the Strait of Hormuz through which almost a fifth of the world's oil exports pass through.
On Thursday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Iran of being responsible for the attacks on the tankers.
