Dozens of farm workers and activists protested against living and working conditions in Bornheim near Bonn, on Tuesday.
The workers, predominantly from Romania, decried the lack of hygiene and cramped living accommodation, which are reportedly located next to a railway line and sewage treatment plant. They also accused the insolvency administrator running the Ritter Spargelhof farming business... Еще of withholding their wages.
Activist Christian Frings, present among the protesters, stated that with the coronavirus pandemic «people who are relevant to the system, who have been treated like dirt, it will take time but you will see, or I hope, that they will realise their power to say something.»
The Bonn general gazette has reported that around 240 harvest helpers have been accommodated in cramped conditions — sometimes four or five in one room.
