Germany: Armed police move into Berlin department store for bank robbery suspects

Police tactical teams moved into the Karstadt department store on Berlin’s Hermannplatz, Friday in the search for bank robbery suspects. Several people were injured on Friday after robbers released irritant gas as they raided a Postbank branch in the Berlin store. Heavily armed police have cordoned off the shopping centre, with the building set to be searched by armed units, as it is unclear if the robbers are still in the complex according to the authorities. Road traffic has also been restricted in the area, with underground trains no longer stopping at the nearby Hermanplatz station.
