Three buses stood vertical to the ground outside the famous Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Friday in a recreation of a sniper barricade used in the Syrian city of Aleppo. German-Syrian artist Manaf Halbouni installed his latest artwork the 'Monument' at the famous site in a copycat of the three buses used to protect civilians from sniper fire. The artwork was criticised by Alternative for... Еще Germandy (AfD) and Pegida when it was first installed in Dresden. At the inauguration in Berlin, Halbouni emphasised the importance of dialogue in resolving conflict, «I hope that it also leads to a lot of discussion here, because it's important that we talk to each other and it's important that we find a solution together, and not just talk against each other. That doesn't bring us any further.» Halbouni is of German-Syrian descent. He first moved to Dresden in 2009 and was awarded the Marion-Ermer Prize in 2015.
