The leader of the Christian Democratic Union Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer addressed the media in Berlin on Sunday after her coalition partner Andrea Nahles resigned from her post as the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD).
Kramp-Karrenbauer said that she treats the «decision with great respect» and thanked Nahles «for her co-operation up until now».
Speaking at a press conference, she... Еще added that CDU is standing behind the coalition treaty and will continue the grand coalition to ensure a «stable and functioning government.»
The statements came after CDU held its first executive board meeting after the EU elections. Pressure had been mounting on Andrea Nahles, after voters handed the party its worst ever European election results a week ago.
