Germany: 'Above expectations' Q3 GDP growth gives 'hope for difficult months' ahead — Altmaier

German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier shared his optimistic view on the current economic situation in the country at a Berlin press conference on Friday, after figures from the Federal Statistical Office showed unexpectedly positive developments. «Economic output in the third quarter rose by 8.2 percent in real terms compared with the second quarter,” said Altmaier, adding that the positive numbers demonstrated that the German economy was in a “strong shape” before the corona crisis, adding that they proved that Germany was “capable of developing and releasing growth forces even under the conditions of such a pandemic.» The minister stressed that with cautious assumptions, “a moderate, but continuously positive development of the economy, with a growth of 4.4 percent” can be predicted for 2021, adding that officials expect a full economic recovery from the pandemic only by 2022.
