Germany: 'Abnormality' of US-led sanctions on Russia 'being realised' in Europe — Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Europe is forced to pay for the US-led anti-Russian «spiral of sanctions,» before adding that the «abnormality of this situation is being realised,» during discussions with his German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday. Lavrov said that bilateral relations should be “based on the real... Еще interests” of both countries, stating that the «spiral of sanctions» initiated by the United States is the main “obstacle for building up business cooperation.” Lavrov went on to say that the “commercial and economic benefits” of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project are “absolutely obvious,” since “the cost of transit will be almost two times less than the current cost.” The Russian minister also mentioned the 20-percent increase in trade turnover between Russia and Germany in 2017. Munich has hosted the Security Conference, one of the major global forums for the discussion of security policy, since its inception in 1963. This year’s conference will be held from February 16-18.
