Germany: 4,000 police officers shipped in ahead of Munich Security Conference

The German police force decided to tighten up safety measures ahead of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) on Friday, with one officer stating 4,000 additional personnel have been posted to the Bavarian capital as more than 30 heads of state and government are expected to attend. «At our peak, there will be 4,000 of my colleagues from Bavaria in addition to other police officers and security... Еще personnel from other states,” he explained. «The vulnerabilities are just the same here as in the rest of the city. Of course, here we have a high concentration of highly-important state guests and we’ve taken that into consideration in our preparations.” Numerous protests are expected to take place around the conference again, with a major one to be held on Saturday. Special security measures have been taken around the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, where the conference is being hosted. This area may only be entered by persons with a 'demonstrably legitimate interest'. All others have to stay outside the 650 barriers during the duration of the MSC. Munich has hosted the Security Conference, one of the major global forum for the discussion of security policy, since its inception in 1963. This year’s conference will be held from February 16 — 18.
