A reported 1,700 coronavirus sceptics gathered in Munich on Sunday at a rally organised by the Querdenken movement, which translates from German into English as «Lateral Thinking.»
Protesters were seen gathering in central Munich's Karlsplatz, holding placards and signs with conspiracy slogans against compulsory vaccination and wearing of masks.
«The Minister President from Bavaria and the whole federal government are generating a oppression with the masks,» said protester Joseph Lohenbusch. «When wrong becomes right, resistance is required.»
Protesters were also seen gathering at the Theresienwiese open space, in front of a stage where a German flag was seen being placed on top of a coffin, a prayer was also said.
The rally organisers reportedly staged the protest as a religious service, since there is no maximum number of people for outdoor church services in Bavaria.
The government imposed measures, including a nationwide lockdown from November 2, in order to spread the curb of the coronavirus.
