Bolivian Foreign Minister Karen Longaric made assurances that the upcoming Bolivian election will go ahead as planned despite the coronavirus outbreak at a press conference in Berlin with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Thursday.
«The government is going to do everything possible to control the outbreak of more cases, and the number one objective of this government, as I was previously... Еще saying, is to get to the general elections at the time fixed by the Electoral Supreme Court, which is May 3rd,» she announced.
Longaric emphasised that the Bolivian government has been behaving democratically. «In Bolivia there is not a coup d'etat, there is a completely democratic atmosphere in which the four state powers are working individually,» she stated.
Both ministers also discussed coronavirus, with Longaric admitting she almost didn't attend the meeting with her counterpart due to the outbreak. «I came with a series of warnings but my interest in visiting Germany and to meet with Minister Maas was stronger than the possibility of getting Coronavirus,» she said.
Maas commented that he did not receive any consultation from his American counterparts before US President Donald Trump's decision to ban all flights from EU countries.
«Exactly at this time, we need more international cooperation,» he opined.
As the COVID-19 outbreak worsens worldwide, Germany has thus far reported 2,502 confirmed cases and five deaths, while Bolivia's tally currently stands at just three confirmed cases.
