The US women's football team head coach Jill Ellis praised Brazilian player Marta for breaking the record of most goals scored at a FIFA World Cup, calling her «an ambassador for our sport» during a press conference in Le Havre on Wednesday.
«[Marta] has done so much for the game, in just terms of promoting it by who she is, how she plays. She has been around a long time, but she is still a very... Еще special player,» Ellis said. «She is just an ambassador for our sport and a good person and obviously a great soccer player.»
Marta cemented her place among football legends on Tuesday when the Brazilian became the all-time top scorer at a FIFA World Cup by scoring her 17th goal in her team's 1-0 game against Italy in Valenciennes.
The US team was preparing for their clash against Sweden on Thursday, a game Ellis expects to be «a very intense game, a combative game, a game with, probably, a lot of transition, a game that's going to be fiercly competed inside the 18 at both ends.»
