France: Union workers march in Paris as CGT calls for national strike

Union workers marched in Paris, on Thursday, as the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) union called for a national strike. «We have a lot of anger in the country which is understandable, because a lot of public money is given to companies and nothing to the workers, and it shouldn't fall on the workers to pay for this crisis,» said Communist Party Senator Fabien Gay. The 'national day of protests' as it is being referred to, was organised by France's second largest trade union General Confederation of Labor (CGT), a group of trade unions known as the Solidaires, the Federation Syndicale Unitaire (FSU), the main education union and the largest public sector trade union. The unions called for better working conditions, higher salaries, and for pension reforms to be dropped, among other demands.
