France: Social workers hit Paris streets against poor working conditions

Hundreds of social workers took to the streets of Paris, Monday, to protest against the deterioration of working conditions due to budget cuts. Students also joined the protest. Demonstrators marched from Musee d'Orsay to the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, where the police was deployed to block the protesters from passing. National Secretary of Federation Syndicale Unitaire (FSU... Еще), Nathalie Andrieux Hennequin, stressed that «we want to make the whole population understand that social work is not a luxury. It is a necessity at the level of national solidarity.» Member of Solidaires Unitaires Democratiques (SUD) noted that «there are multinationals behind, investment funds, with returns on investment, behind [the social sector]. It's time to tell them stop. The social is not for sale.»
