Activist and Sea-Watch 3 Captain Carola Rackete joined Extinction Rebellion (XR) climate protesters who gathered to block roads in Paris for the fourth day running on Thursday.
«It is very urgent that the European governments, and that includes France, take action. We cannot wait any more, we must make the protection of the ecosystems and the prevention of the climate breakdown must be the number... Еще one priority. And, we also at the same time have to take care of the people who will be affected,» said Rackete at the demonstration as they were blocking the street leading from Concorde Square past the Louvre to the city hall.
Activists chanted and waved flags bearing the group's symbol during the sit in, refusing to let cars or other vehicles through.
«In truth, he and we both suffer from this situation, from the status quo, which has lasted too long.
We are suffering from the inaction of our public authorities. We are here to challenge, to tell the truth and to ensure that behind us, we have measures that are more up to the challenges. Because the issue is potentially the extinction of all species, including ours,» said an activist as a lorry driver was pleading with the group to grant him passage.
Thursday's protest is part of a series of direct actions organised by XR in the French capital and beyond.
