France: Right-wing activists support police officer accused of manslaughter in Nantes

Dozens of right-wing activists staged a rally in front of the police headquarters in Nantes on Saturday to support a police officer suspected of shooting a 22-year-old man. A group of antifascist demonstrators organised a counter rally across the street. Police officers were deployed at scene to keep the groups of protesters apart. At the end of the protest, one of the counter protesters was... Еще reportedly detained. According to the police, officers opened fire on a 22-year-old man, identified as Aboubakar Fofana, after he reversed his car into a police officer. A bullet hit the driver in his carotid artery which led to his death. However a widely reported witness statement contradicts the police account, saying the car was stationary at the time of the incident. A police officer has been taken into custody for questioning in relation to Fofana's death. Nantes Mayor Johanna Rolland has reportedly asked for a transparent investigation into the case.
