A ground subsidence occurred in the 16th district of Paris on Friday, requiring intervention by firefighters.
The main wall of an under-construction building reportedly collapsed, reportedly raising firefighters' fears that a nearby 50-metre high crane would follow, and raising concerns of a possible gas leak. As a precautionary measure, 13 buildings were evacuated and residents were offered... Еще shelter inside a gym.
«So, a sinking of the ground floor took place in front of the building site, something which eventually puts in danger the stability of the building, this is the issue. That is why in the neighbourhood big precautions were put in place, because that could have caused a big gas leak, and they switched off the gas and took all the precautions,» a resident stated.
The security zone was later reduced to nine buildings, while the collapsed wall was secured. The operations are set to resume on Saturday morning.
