France: Republicans' Paris mayoral candidate Dati votes in local elections during coronavirus crisis

The Republicans (LR) party Rachida Dati cast her vote in France's local elections in Paris on Sunday, as the country headed to the polls despite a nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak. Dati is running neck-and-neck to replace current Paris's current mayor, the Socialist Party's Anne Hidalgo, who took office in 2014. People were encouraged to turn out to vote while following... Еще precautionary measures, such as using their own pens and wearing gloves, as well as keeping at least one-metre (3.2 feet) distance between voters, turnout was however reportedly down from the same point of the 2014 elections. Municipal elections are taking place across France's roughly 35,000 communes on Sunday despite a government ordered lockdown due to the coronavirus, which came into force at midnight, although turnout is expected to be reduced as a result. Under the order, all bars, restaurants and non-essential shops were closed across France to help curb the spread of the coronavirus. There are at least 4,500 confirmed cases in the country, and 91 infected people have died.
