France: Protesters prevented from interrupting Macron's visit

Around 200 protesters who sought to disrupt President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Angouleme on Thursday were prevented from doing so by a heavy police presence. Protesters accuse Emmanuel Macron and his government to destroy the French welfare system through his proposed pension reform. «We're protesting everywhere because this country feels like it's never being listened to. The president hasn't... Еще been elected solely on his (political) platform, he was elected instead of Marine Le Pen because many wanted to counter the far-right which in turn doesn't give him a free pass to destroy the French social system», said Socialist Party First Secretary Olivier Faure. Macron was due to open the Angouleme International Comics Festival, one of the largest of its kind in Europe. France has been beset by strikes and unrest since early December, when the pension overhaul was announced.
