French police conducted the evacuation of a makeshift refugee camp in Grande-Synthe, a suburb nine kilometres (5.59 miles) to the west of Dunkirk, Tuesday.
Police vehicles blocked the roads in the surroundings of the camp and evacuated migrants on buses, as some pro-migrant volunteers assisted the operation.
One of the volunteers, Madeline Kreie, said that since 6:00 local time (4:00 GMT... Еще) security forces took away from the migrants «every tent and every sleeping bag, and they [took] everyone and [brought] them to other cities.»
The volunteer went on to say that she learnt through a phone call that elsewhere police allegedly used violence against migrants during the camp clearance, as officers would «smash down people and hit people as well.»
