France: Police deploy tear gas against protesters at anti-racism rally in Lille

Hundreds of protesters filled Place de la Republique in the French city of Lille on Wednesday, to protest against racism and police brutality, one day after George Floyd's funeral in the US. Tension rose as police forces surrounded the rally to prevent access to the city centre and deployed tear gas against demonstrators. Mounted police were also present on site. The rally was held in the wake of several 'Black lives matter' demonstrations taking place across Europe and worldwide, in response to George Floyd's killing at the hands of a white police officer two weeks ago.
