France: Paris pays tribute to fallen 'hero' of Trebes attack

Dozens gathered in front of Les Invalides in Paris on Wednesday, to pay tribute to Arnaud Beltrame, the fallen police officer who was killed last week during a terrorist attack in Trebes. French President Emmanuel Macron arrived at Les Invalides, where the state funeral of the officer took place. Today he has united the entire nation and of all the patriots,» said former Lieutenant Colonel of the Gendarmerie Jean-Michel Queva. During the ceremony, Macron addressed the public as he bid farewell to the slain officer: «At the moment of the final goodbye I offer you the recognition, the admiration and the affection of the whole country.» The 44-year-old Lieutenant-Colonel, Arnaud Beltrame, has been elevated to the rank of commander of the 'Legion of Honor'. On March 23, a gunman killed one person while stealing a vehicle from Carcassonne. The gunman then reportedly drove to the nearby town of Trebes, where he took hostages at a Super U store. Beltrame was among the officers who rushed to the scene when the attacker stormed the supermarket.
