The mural made in tribute to Steve Maia Canico, the young man who drowned in 2019 in Nantes following a police raid, has been vandalised again according to footage from Monday.
Steve Canico disappeared into the river during the Fete de la Musique, along with 14 other attendees on 21 June 2019, as police raided the festival. His body was recovered 38 days later in the Loire.
Riots erupted after an enquiry found no link between the raid and Canico's death.
The mural in Nantes has been vandalised several times and just had been completely restored last May, just before the anniversary of Canico’s tragic death. Swastikas and hateful slogans could be seen defacing the mural.
