France: Macron, Kurz broach «humane and effective» migration policy as leaders meet in Paris

French President Emmanuel Macron received Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz in Paris on Friday, in what constituted one of the first overseas visits for the recently elected Chancellor. Speaking at a joint press conference after the bilateral meeting, Macron touched upon the issue of migration by calling on «a better organisation at the level of our Europe, a greater external and internal... Еще solidarity which will also allow us to respond to this challenge.» The Austrian Chancellor touched down on the issue of external border security, stating that «a European Union without borders in its interior will work only when there are secure external borders.» After stressing that Austria was «pro-European Union,» Kurz went on to call on greater subsidiary powers for EU member states. 31-year-old Kurz was sworn in in December as the youngest head of government in Europe. His conservative People's Party (OVP) governs together with the right-wing FPO. He has previously criticised the quota system for distributing asylum seekers across Europe, calling it a «failed policy.»
