The French city of Lyon has renamed 24 public transportation stations after national team captains participating in the 2019 Women's World Cup, footage filmed on Saturday shows.
The central Station Part-Dieu was renamed after French Captain Amandine Henry, in an effort to boost the French national team's spirit and give more visibility to the tournament taking place in France.
«I think it's good... Еще because it makes people more interested, people will be a bit more interested in women's football,» one local said.
Another station, Gare Bellecour Le Viste, was renamed after English Captain Steph Houghton, while German Captain Alexandra Popp's name appeared in the underground station Vieux Lyon.
«I think it will give a great visibility to women's football, because it's true that it's not a sport which we are used to see a lot on the media,» said another Lyon resident.
Lyon will host the first semi-final between England and USA on July 2. Sweden will then face the Netherlands in the second semi-final on July 3, ahead of the final clash between the semi-final winners on July 7.
