France: Juncker warns Brexit Britain can’t be in ‘parts of single market’

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker delivered his final State of the Union speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday with a warning to Brexit Britain. Juncker spoke at length about Brexit, warning the UK that “We also ask the British government to understand that someone who leaves the Union cannot be in the same privileged position as a member state. If you... Еще leave the Union you are of course no longer part of our single market and certainly not only in parts of it.» He acknowledged that the UK will remain a close partner of the EU and lined out the future relations between the two: «We agree with the statement made in Chequers that the starting point for such a partnership should be a free trade area between the United Kingdom and the European Union.» Juncker also spoke about the global role of the European Union in an ever-changing world, saying that «the international order which Europeans have taken advantage of since World War II is more and more challenged. Furthermore, in today's world Europe can't have the reassurance that the commitments started in the past will still be respected in the future. The alliances of yesterday, may not be anymore the alliances of tomorrow.»
