Hundreds of Muslims celebrated the holiday of Eid al-Adha on Friday morning at the Nelson Mandela stadium in La Courneuve, in the suburbs of Paris, after the French government suggested to hold outdoors prayer and multiple staggered prayer times for the indoor ones due to the coronavirus outbreak.
“This is the first time at La Courneuve that we have organised a common prayer, that is to say that there are four associations gathered to pray together. Given the COVID situation, we cannot pray inside the Mosques. So given the number of people, the Town Hall offered us the ground of the Stadium to say prayers,» said Bacera Golaup, president of the Mauritian Muslim Association in La Courneuve.
Four different Muslim associations got together for prayer services at the stadium.
Eid al-Adha, or the ‘Festival of the Sacrifice,’ is the second of two globally celebrated holidays in Islam, the other being Eid Al-Fitr.
