France: Flares burn outside Luxembourg Palace as railway workers go on strike

Members of rail unions staged a protest in front of the Luxembourg Palace in Paris on Monday, where they decried railway reforms aiming eliminate the SNCF state-owned railway company monopoly. The protest was organised one day before Senators begin debating the reforms. Protesters carried banners, held flags and lit flares outside the seat of the French Senate. Protesters fear that the reform... Еще might eventually lead to privatisation of the SNCF and to less preferable working conditions. The reform was approved by the French parliament in April and caused a wave of strikes with train services being disrupted.
