France: Council of Europe votes to restore Russia's voting rights

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) voted to restore Russia's voting rights in the European human rights body in a late night session in Strasbourg, in the early hours of Tuesday. The resolution, which was adopted 118 to 62, restores Russia's voting rights in PACE, which were suspended following the unrest in eastern Ukraine and Crimea in 2014. European leaders including... Еще Germany's Angela Merkel and France's Emmanuel Macron supported the move in the interest of promoting dialogue with Moscow, though Ukraine opposed it. Ukraine's ambassador to Austria, Oleksandr Scherba, tweeted on Monday, «Russia plans to roll into PACE like it rolled into Crimea -- unpunished, arrogant and largely unopposed.»
