Hundreds rallied in Ajaccio on Saturday ahead of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Corsica, demanding greater local autonomy. Protesters marched through the streets of the city, holding flags and a banner reading: ‘Democracy and respect for the people of Corsica.' Afterwards they staged a rally, attended by leader of Corsica's regional council Gilles Simeoni. «We want a true... Еще political solution. We want the state to acknowledge the deeply political dimension of the Corsica case. And we also want a constitutional revision,» Simeoni told journalists. The Corsican protesters aspire to greater dialogue with Paris regarding an increase in the island's rights as an autonomous region, including equal status for the Corsican language. Macron is due to visit Corsica on February 6.
