France: Clashes erupt at union protest on Bastille Day in Paris

Demonstrators hit the streets of Paris on Tuesday following a call made by the CGT (General Confederation of Labour) to protest job cuts but also poverty and unemployment. Protesters with the police erupting during the demonstrations, where police deployed tear gas and could be seen detaining several people. The protest is taking place in the wake of France's cabinet reshuffle and the nomination of Jean Castex as the new Prime Minister. The French government is still banning public gatherings with more than 5,000 people due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
