France: Cars set alight in Nantes as riots over police killing of man continue

Protesters continued setting fires and garbage bins on fire in Nantes on Friday night, amid riots over the police killing of a 22-year-old man earlier this week. Images from the the district of Breil show a car and garbage bins in flames, and a destroyed vehicle. Police and firefighters we also seen extinguishing the fires. Riots have been ongoing in Nantes after a 22-year-old man, identified... Еще as Aboubakar Fofana, was shot dead by police during a traffic check. According to local police, officers opened fire on Fofana after he reversed his car into a police officer. A bullet hit the driver in his carotid artery and subsequently led to his death. However a widely reported witness statement contradicts the police account, saying that the car was stationary at the time of the incident. A police officer has been taken into custody for questioning in relation to the death of Fofana. Nantes Mayor Johanna Rolland has reportedly asked for a transparent investigation into the case.
