Protesters continued setting fires and garbage bins on fire in Nantes on Friday night, amid riots over the police killing of a 22-year-old man earlier this week. According to local police, officers opened fire on Fofana after he reversed his car into a police officer. A bullet hit the driver in his carotid artery and subsequently led to his death. However a widely reported witness statement contradicts the police account, saying that the car was stationary at the time of the incident. A police officer has been taken into custody for questioning in relation to the death of Fofana. Nantes Mayor Johanna Rolland has reportedly asked for a transparent investigation into the case.
