Barricades were set alight as clashes between 'Zone a Defendre' (ZAD) activists and police continued at a protest camp 20 kilometres (12 miles) northwest of Notre-Dame-des-Landes on Thursday. Protesters piled up tyres and turned cars upside down in attempt to stop police from entering the camp. Around 20 tractors also arrived to the site to protect barricades. The eco-activists from ZAD, which... Еще literally means ‘Zone to Defend’, initially came together in 2008 to protest against a proposed airport in Nantes. The plan was recently abandoned, however, it is estimated that up to 200 activists remain at the site and refuse to leave it, despite eviction orders and threats from the authorities.
