France: Angry pensioners march against Macron tax reforms in Paris

Several thousand pensioners hit the streets of Paris on Thursday to protest against French President Emmanuel Macron's planned tax hikes. The rise in tax will affect around 60 percent of pensioners and will result in a loss of EUR 204 (USD 240) per year for pensioners receiving a monthly pension of EUR 1000 (USD 1178) and EUR 408 (USD 480) for those receiving EUR 2000 (USD 2357). Member of the... Еще the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) Remy stated that some will lose «more than 2000 euros per year on their pension». He stressed, «If Macron's government doesn't listen to us, I think the movement will continue, beyond pension issues, all salaries and citizens. 78 percent of people are against the labour law.» Macron's upcoming labour and tax reforms have been met with backlash from workers' unions, students and pensioners over the past few weeks. Similar pensioner protests took place in other French cities, as anti-Macron sentiments escalate around the country.
