France: Ambulances' 'snail' protest brings Paris to a halt

Traffic circulation slowed to a crawl on Paris's ring road on Monday as hundreds of ambulances, sirens blaring, protested controversial transport finance reform. Paramedics climbed on the top of vehicles and let off flares at the rush hour protest. Many of the vehicles carried messages in their windows criticising the reforms. The new regulation, which went into effect on October 1, means that... Еще hospitals and clinics, rather than individual patients, will choose which ambulance service to use. Ambulance workers say the reform will undermine their autonomy and worsen their working conditions, as they will no longer be able to compete.
