Russian President Vladimir Putin donned his skates and hit the ice at Sochi Bolshoi Arena on Thursday, as he took part in a gala match at the Night Hockey League (NHL). Wearing his usual No. 11 jersey, the Russian leader scored five goals, helping his ‘Legends of Hockey’ team to a 12-7 victory against the best amateurs in Russia. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu also managed to get on... Еще the scoresheet, evidently benefiting from Putin’s elite puck handling skills and soft hands. Night Hockey League was founded in 2011 on the initiative of the Russian leader and with the support of Russian hockey veterans. It aims to attract adult Russians to the sport in the country, popularise hockey and create an amateur ice hockey community, uniting all regions of Russia.
