Estonia: Juncker stresses EU's support for Spanish govt. over Catalan referendum

EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that the EC supports the position of the Spanish government over the Catalan independence referendum, in Tallinn, Friday. Juncker stated, «we are very much attached to the respect of the rule of law, there is a ruling of the Spanish constitutional court and there is a decision of the Spanish parliament and that is it». The Spanish government has... Еще deemed the referendum, scheduled to take place on October 1, «illegal.» The Constitutional Court suspended the Catalan referendum law, following an appeal from the Spanish government. It will be suspended until the court reaches a decision. Speaking at a press conference following the Tallinn Digital Summit, Juncker also noted that the EC intends to implement new rules on the digital sector tax. «We are of the opinion that in the digital sector, tax has to be paid where it is due, be it online or be it offline,» adding, «the commission will propose next year new rules on fair and effective taxation that provide legal certainty and a level playing field.»
