Drone footage from Tallinn on Tuesday features the Patarei fortress built by Tsar Nicholas I, which the Estonian government has recently put up for auction. First built in 1828, the fortress was shut down before visitors in July 2016 after being deemed «too dangerous to visit safely» by the state-owned managing firm. The construction of the fortress was concluded in 1840, and it served as an... Еще artillery battery until 1867, when it was converted into ordinary barracks. In the early 20th century, it was transformed into a prison, which remained in operation until 2002. In addition to selling the Patarei Sea Fortress-Prison , the Estonian government reportedly plans to establish a research centre and a «museum dedicated to the crimes of communism» in one wing of the complex.
