England: Plane carrying 'White Lives Matter Burnley' banner flies over Manchester

A plane carrying a banner reading «White Lives Matter Burnley» flew over the Etihad Stadium in Manchester during a game between Premier League teams Manchester City and Burnley on Monday. The teams had been paying tribute to the Black Lives Matter movement by kneeling before the game began. A small group of far-right Burnley fans known as the Suicide Squad have reportedly come forward to take responsibility for the stunt. Burnley Football Club has also announced that it will issue a lifetime ban to fans behind the banner flown over the Etihad Stadium. Lancashire Police have opened an investigation into individuals behind the stunt. They are believed to be supporters of the English Defence League, a far-right Islamophobic organisation in the United Kingdom.
